Education and Outreach

Welcome to the online world of ‘Ahakhav Tribal Preserve’s Environmental Education Website. Whether you are a newcomer or a frequent visitor, our new website will help you rediscover the beauty and natural splendor of Parker Valley, CRIT’s Reservation, The Mohave & Sonoran Deserts, and the area’s primary environmental education center and park.

School Programs

In addition to the Camp Programs, the Preserve provides area schools with field trip opportunities as well as outreach services.

One-half and full day environmental education field trips to the preserve are offered from September through November and February through May. Outreach programs provide hands-on learning in the school classrooms and are offered throughout the school year.

All lessons will meet state science curriculum standards and will be designed to improve science and other test scores. Furthermore, students will enjoy hands on and experiential learning about topics ranging from botany and gardening to Colorado River fishes and desert fauna.

A Teacher Professional Development day is held annually at the preserve. Teachers receive training on many ecological and cultural subjects and information on educational resources, as well as information about our programs. On April 7th 2007 ATP will provide a Teacher inservice day at the Preserve and will offer the opportunity for teachers to ear professional development hours while learning about about the cultures of the Colorado River Indian Tribes and ethnobotany.

For more information on or to register for our school programs or teacher programs please contact the Education and Outreach Director at the preserve at 928-669-2664.

Camp 'Ahakhav

For the first time in several years, ‘Ahakhav Tribal Preserve is offering summer and intersession camp programs to area youth. All programs will provide hands-on learning in the educational facility, in the park, and in area sites of ecological  and cultural importance as well as an 1 to 3 day field trip opportunity.

Local youth and adults are invited to come to the Preserve and participate in these environmental and ecology education programs which include hands on science lessons, craft and cultural projects.

The environmental education programs at the preserve are offered through a generous grant from the Inter Tribal Trust Fund which is administered by the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona. These funds will allow all area CRIT youth to attend the camps for free and other students to attend at a heavily subsidized rate.
